EMDR Therapy for Problem Behaviors & Patterns, Anxiety and Trauma
EMDR for Trauma That Won't Let Go
Target the root of trauma—not just the symptoms
If you've felt stuck in painful memories or trapped in patterns you can't explain, you're not alone—and it’s not about willpower. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a proven, neuroscience-backed method to help your brain reprocess and release distressing experiences that talk therapy can’t always reach.
What Is EMDR?
EMDR is a structured, research-based therapy that helps people reprocess traumatic or distressing memories so they no longer feel overwhelming or “stuck.” It uses bilateral stimulation (often eye movements) to activate the brain’s natural healing processes.
How Does EMDR Work?
When something overwhelming happens—especially early in life—your brain stores the memory in a fragmented, reactive state. EMDR helps reintegrate those fragments, so the memory loses its emotional charge. You still remember what happened, but it no longer runs your life.
What Does EMDR Help With?
I use EMDR to treat a wide range of issues, including:
Complex trauma and childhood emotional neglect
Postpartum rage, anxiety, and adjustment
Betrayal trauma and relational wounding
High-achiever burnout, chronic shame, or over-control
Panic attacks, flashbacks, and intrusive thoughts
Is EMDR Effective?
Yes. EMDR is considered one of the most effective trauma therapies available. It’s evidence-based and can create lasting change in fewer sessions than traditional talk therapy. Many of my clients experience significant relief in just a few months—even after years of feeling stuck.
What Can I Expect During an EMDR Session?
EMDR sessions are structured and paced based on your needs. We begin by identifying the most charged memories, emotions, or beliefs, and then we reprocess them using bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or tones).
You stay in control throughout the process—we go only as fast as your system can handle.
Is EMDR Right for Me?
If you’ve tried traditional therapy and still feel stuck in the past, EMDR may be a better fit. It’s especially effective for clients who are high-functioning but emotionally overwhelmed, and for those who feel like they’re “just going through the motions.”

FAQs About EMDR
Does EMDR work for complex trauma, not just single events?
Yes—EMDR is effective for complex trauma, including childhood emotional neglect, relational trauma, or betrayal that unfolded over time. This is especially true when we utilize other modalities such as Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Brainspotting, which allow for more direct access to dissociated experiences.
How is EMDR different from talk therapy?
Talk therapy works from the top down—by exploring thoughts and emotions. EMDR works from the bottom up—by targeting where trauma is stored in the body and brain.
Will I have to relive the trauma in detail?
No. With EMDR, you don’t need to tell the whole story aloud. We work with your brain and nervous system directly, allowing for reprocessing without retraumatization.
How long does EMDR take to work?
It depends on the complexity of your history, but many clients report relief in just a few months. We’ll collaborate on a plan that fits your goals and capacity.
